Hi All

I got my puppy (7 months) neutered on Th, everything went fine and he came domicile in the evening.
He didn't swallow anything Thursday, so no poop on Friday.
Since Saturday, he has diarrhea. Runny stools and several times a day.

I stopped the pain medication per the vet's advice. The diarrhea continues; I have given a stool sample to the vet today.

He has never had diarrhea so far. There has been no change in diet.

The vet recommends steamed rice and boiled chicken, which I will start today. Could this be because of the neutering?
Any other tips/suggestions?

Thanks!

it could be the anesthesia; I had that happen to a canis familiaris and information technology took him a few days to readjust. I would ask him about adding yogurt or bene-bac to his food to reset his insides.

Information technology's not the actual surgery. More likely the anaesthesia or even the pain medication. Get with the chicken and overcooked rice (and ONLY white meat of the craven - the dark meat is too greasy).

And you don't have to swallow to have a bowel movement. Half of all stool is composed of leaner (a true fact). Having eaten often helps 'move things along' just information technology's non necessary to eat to have a bowel move.

Also don't forget that the dog would have probably received a good dose of antibiotics. That alone is enough to upset the flora of a digestive tract.

Cheers all. It probably is the anesthesia and medicines. With boiled chicken (chest meat, thank you for the tip, Viralmd) and rice and few pumpkin puree spoonfuls, information technology seems like he is slowly getting better.

happy news!!

also, fivehorses is correct about the antibiotics..... might desire to try some plain yogurt too ..... brand sure it is ane of the ones marketed for digestive health.... many of the store brands (i've noticed) don't have the "good" bacteria necessary to go the gut right again.......

Hi this is gonna seem fatigued out but i want yous to get the complete picture of whats happening here with my little boy poodle/****zu/Chihuahua about ane yr and a half old. He was a covid pup and socializing him at the times i have e'er simply naturally done with my dogs was not on course due to the pandemic. I really didn't even realize what was happening but we spent all this time in the house with no visitors, non going alot of places actually going nowhere but maybe the grocery one time or and then weekly. Non the place you desire to introduce a pup to the world. Merely similar I said it never occurred to me that this was making my dog very clingy, extremely afraid of strangers and fearful of everything and everyone outside of my immediate family, our flat and the minor patch of m nosotros have out back "minor" He's and so fearful of unfamiliar that he becomes aggressive. But is other wise a very loving playful and funny guy. When I go somewhere whether it be for 30 mins or 2 hrs my family says he sits near the front door or window and cries till im back. When I utilize bath or shower he sits outside and if also long he cries. Very much a Velcro pup and every stressor for him is overly dramatic. Information technology's exhausting. At 8 months old he got 1st circular of shots then I missed the date for 2nd round. So made appt to go him fixed and all shots. The appts were backed upward due to the pandemic and it was done Friday. We droped him Fri morning at 9 he was a nervous wreck shaking & crying plus I had to muzzle him and wrap him in a big towel to go him to the vet tech safely i picked him up at 3 he came out i judge zonked from meds as time went past he was adequately out of information technology but did have a appetite as usual hes got that footling puppy boy appetite, always acts like he hasn't been fed in days. Until mid twenty-four hour period Saturday, I noticed he was picking at food so come Lord's day and he pretty much wouldnt eat. Peradventure a bite or 2 here northward in that location. Possibly like ten% of his usual intake and is nevertheless pretty much there equally far every bit food. He doesnt go for water either but I've been making him take a syringe of water every 60 minutes or so. Add to all this Sun he did vomit 2 times and has had diarrhea, constant diarrhea since early Sunday as well. His surgery to get stock-still turns out ane of his assurance never dropped and they had to go into his breadbasket to become it, I apologize for not knowing the med terminology. They done that surgery and all his shots. Practise you think this tin can be feet from the trauma of the whole situation for him? Or the meds and anesthesia or plez tell me not parvo..... I'm going to endeavour get in touch with a vet in forenoon because I'thousand stressed badly nut if information technology traumatizing him volition I make it worse taking him back and so soon

It's sort of hard to read this mail service but is this correct:

He went in for surgery on Friday morning, highly stressed, and came out at 3pm. He ordinarily has a great appetite and that was the case after surgery, until midday Sabbatum. Then he began picking at his food and inappreciably eating, and vomited twice on Sunday, and has abiding diarrhea since Sunday, also. You've been giving a syringe of water every hr.

If this is accurate, I'd certainly exist calling the vet to ask them near it (before y'all bring him in). I don't really run across how it could be Parvo - could you tell us why that possibility occurred to you?

If you have a canis familiaris thermometer, I'd have his temperature. A dog's normal temp is 101 - 102 or then. Here's a how-to, if y'all take not done it before:
https://vcahospitals.com/know-your-p...ts-temperature

To me it sounds similar it could nevertheless be a reaction to the anesthesia, but the fact that he DID have an ambition for a while is a wrinkle. So unfortunately, it could as well be an infection (or something else that I don't have the experience to place). Definitely telephone call the vet to hash out it. Are at that place mobile vets in your area? Since going to the vet's office is SO stressful for him, you lot might see if you can get a mobile vet to come out to accept a wait at him.

Expert luck. It sounds very stressful.
